The Department of History at the United States Military Academy at West Point invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in History and Genocide/Mass Atrocity studies. The appointment, which will begin on or about 1 July 2017, is for thirteen months and may be renewable for an additional year. The fellowship is open to junior scholars who received their doctorates no earlier than 2012. Applicants must be committed to college-level research and teaching. Expertise in Genocide/Atrocity Studies and African, East Asian, Latin American, Middle Eastern, South Asian, or Russian/Central Asian History is required. The fellow will teach a regional history survey course and possibly an advanced undergraduate seminar in the candidate’s area(s) of specialty pertaining to Holocaust/Genocide/Mass Atrocity studies. The fellow is also expected to produce original research prior to the conclusion of the fellowship. She/he will assist the Director in administration of West Point’s Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies on projects and activities. The fellow may have the opportunity to work with the Department of Defense on atrocity prevention activities and research.
Applicants will be evaluated on the following criteria: 1) academic accomplishment (a Ph.D. in History/Atrocity Studies by time of appointment is preferred), 2) scholarly potential, 3) ability to teach an introductory survey in a regional history, 4) experience in student-centered and active-learning instruction, 5) ability to contribute to Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies initiatives and assist with administration of the center.
