Agency and Transcultural Memory

The conference will bring together researchers from all over Europe to address the concept of memory agency in Europe from a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspective. The conference aims to deepen theoretical and methodological reflections on the role of transcultural actors in the transmission and negotiation of memories across national and cultural borders.

Keynote speeches are delivered by:

Prof. Jeffrey Olick University of Virginia,USA,  Prof. Luisa Passerini, European University Institute, Florence, Prof. Jan Kubik, School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College London,  Prof. Michael Bernhard, University of Florida , USA,  Prof. Bernard Rimé University of Louvain, Prof. Vered Vinitzky-Seroussi, Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and   Prof. Andrea Petö, Central European University,  Budapest

The presentations will be followed by inputs from invited commentators and discussions in the plenary. One afternoon will be especially dedicated to a panel on transcultural memory in the Baltic states.

The last half day of the conference on 18th of April (from 9 a.m. to 15 p.m.) includes the guided visit to the sites of memory in Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania.

 Please notice that there is no conference fee.

COST covers travel and accommodation for the MC- members of the action and (in relevant cases) their substitutes.  However, other researchers who can secure their own funding can participate providing that they send their registration details to the local organizer in Kaunas, e-mail: cost.kaunas@gmail.com,  no later than 15 February 2015.
