Pathways of impact: How transitional justice affects democratic institution-building
Impact of Transitional Justice Measures on Democratic Institution-building, October 2014.

This paper, written by Dr. Valerie Arnould and Professor Chandra Lekha Sriram, builds upon research in Brazil, Chile, Sierra Leone and Uganda, articulates the expected pathways of impact of transitional justice as delegitimisation, promotion of reform, and empowerment of marginalised actors, and finds that the actual effects are mixed, with some unintended consequences.

The project will develop analyses in these four countries, as well as Hungary, (East) Germany, Japan and South Korea, and more policy papers as well as academic articles will be forthcoming.
