A UN appeals court has reduced the life sentence of former Rwandan army colonel Theoneste Bagosora to 35 years. Described as a ‘kingpin’ of the genocide in which 800,000 people were killed, Bagosora, 70, was found guilty of genocide and crimes against humanity two years ago by the UN’s International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR). The appeals court overturned his convictions for specific murders this week, but he remains guilty of crimes against humanity.
