Former President of Côte d’Ivoire Transferred to ICC

Côte d’Ivoire’s (Ivory Coast) former president, Laurent Gbagbo, will appear before the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Monday December 5, following his transfer to international custody on Tuesday. Gbagbo faces four counts of crimes against humanity.

More than 3,000 people were killed and over a million displaced during post-election violence last year (video).Gbagbo is the first former head of state to be taken into custody by the ICC. His supporters have responded by withdrawing from reconciliation efforts.

Monday’s court appearance will be streamed live from the court.
