CFA: Cultural Memory Training in Berlin
CFA: Cultural Memory Training in Berlin
Deadline: April 6, 2015
Dates: May 4-8, 2015
Location: Berlin
How a society deals with its conflictual past decisively influences how it will deal with present and future conflicts.
Steps for Peace supports civilian national and international actors in social and political transformation processes in crisis regions and provides customized educational offers to this target group.
I would like to bring to your attention our up-coming seminar Shaping and experiencing cultural memory which will take place from 4. to 8. May 2015 in Berlin.
Participants will be familiarized with the concepts of cultural memory, politics of memory and memorial pedagogy. Further, the seminar will show which stages a public process of dealing with the past can go through and who initiates and organizes these processes. A special emphasis will be put on the interplay of different societal spheres as well as divides between them and sources of renewed conflict. The seminar benefits from the diversity of places of remembrance the city of Berlin has to offer. The training takes participants on an excursion to places and institutions in Berlin that are focusing on dealing with the past and cultural memory in Germany in different ways. The 8. May 2015, the last day of the seminar, is the 70. anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Germany and thus complements the seminar with current events of remembrance.
The training is aimed at international and national multipliers from crisis regions and transformational countries who are focusing on dealing with the past and cultural memory and who would like to gain inspiration for their own work.
