UNAMID’s Head emphasizes importance of social peace, reconciliation in West Darfur

The head of UNAMID, the United Nations/African Union Hybrid Operation in Darfur announced their support for “social peace and reconciliation initiatives in Darfur, within the scope of our mandate and capacity.” He emphasized that simply signing a peace agreement will not be enough; further work must be done to mitigate the conflict and initiate peace in the region.
